Robert Stephan collection, circa 1963-1995.

The Robert Stephan collection consists primarily of photocopied newspaper clippings, dated 1979-1995, concerning a variety of topics of interest or topics pertaining to his tenure as Kansas Attorney General. The clippings document legal topics, Kansas elections, Kansas politics, press coverage on candidates for various state offices, various lawsuits involving individuals or businesses, and Stephan's public appearances, actions, and decisions. The clippings are organized chronologically by date. Also included are Stephen's diaries, notebooks and scrapbooks containing press releases and clippings concerning Stephan's 1990 campaign for Attorney General, his career as a police judge, and clippings of general crime stories. One scrapbook contains clippings documenting Japan's surrender during World War II, and the end of the war.

Robert Stephan is a former Kansas Attorney General, serving 1979-1995. Prior to being Attorney General, he was a police judge in Wichita. Stephan is a member of the Republican Party, and also served as Chairman of the Kansas Sentencing Commission. He is an alumnus of Washburn University, graduating in 1957, and practices law in Kansas.
